We have discussed how important it is to capture the bride with her bridesmaids by her side, and the same is true for the groom and his groomsmen. The groomsmen are the men who mean enough to the groom that he wants them by side throughout the day of his wedding. It is important to capture the time that they spend together that day. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of opportunities for formal photos with all members of the family and the wedding party. The meaningful, natural moments that occur with the ones you are close to are harder to capture on film. However, these moments make for the best wedding photos that will be endearing for years to come. From getting dressed and waiting at the altar to speeches and dancing at the wedding reception – there is no shortage of meaningful moments to photograph.
The bonds between the groom and his groomsmen is different than what exists between the bride and her bridesmaids, so while both groups are equally important, they will not be captured in the same way. Photographs of the bridesmaids will most likely be more heartfelt full of hugs, kisses and possibly tears, while photos of the groom with his groomsmen will be filled hearty laughs, arms draped over shoulders and ‘bro hugs’. But, you can expect moments of goofy poses and heartfelt prayers from both groups.
Every group has their dynamic and each groomsman has his own relationship with the groom. If the person is important enough to include your wedding party, then it’s important to capture their relationship on camera. There’s no exact way of capturing a unique relationship. A good photographer will be able to spot a meaningful moment and be able to capture at least a few throughout the day in addition to the expected formal wedding photos.
