Natural DIY Home Remedies for Fragile Hair

coffee-beans-and-coconut-oil

Hair loss and brittle hair is an all too real struggle for me due to my PCOS diagnosis. Like other women with PCOS, I suffer from regular hair loss and brittle hair. It is difficult for me to grow my hair at all unless I follow a disciplined low-glycemic diet full of plenty of leafy greens and regular juicing. Even with that regimen, I am lucky for my hair to grow at half of the rate of that of women without medical issues. Sufferers of PCOS are not alone in this predicament. Anyone suffering from hormonal or adrenal issues probably has some issues with hair breakage and loss. Some women with no hormonal problems may also be prone to hair breakage and loss due to genetics or nutrition. If you are feeling the same pains as me, you may be able to treat your hair naturally and cheaply using home remedies for fragile hair.

As you may have noticed from reading other posts, my mantra is natural treatment. If you can heal what ails you using something from the kitchen cabinet, then try it first. This remedy will likely be the cheapest and least noxious for your body. In fact, your body may even receive some ancillary benefits from the treatment. After trying many recommended treatments in varying amounts, many bouts of my own trial and error, and loads of patience, I believe that have found perfected my routine of naturally treating my hair using these home remedies for fragile hair.

For this hair treatment, you will coconut oil and coffee grounds. The coffee grounds can be used or fresh. I personally like to save coffee grounds left over after making a batch of cold brew coffee. It is enough not only for a hair treatment, but for a body scrub as well. For a hair mask only, you will need no more than 4 tablespoons of dry coffee grounds. For the coconut oil treatment, you will most likely use no more than 4 tablespoons as well. You may use less depending on your hair length.

When my hair was at its worst, I began using the coconut oil treatment first. This added hydration, which stemmed my hair loss. Once my hair follicles were stronger, I began making using coffee masks to reduce breakage. If you having issues with both hair loss and breakage, begin with the coconut oil hair mask. In addition to using these home remedies for fragile hair, I also recommend washing and conditioning your hair every other day. I reduced my hair washing and condition to every other day in order to mitigate stripping my hair of its natural oils with shampoo and conditioner.

The coconut oil will add vitamins, minerals and the medium-chain fatty acids to your scalp and hair. It will make your hair stronger and more hydrated. You can also treat dandruff with this hair mask as well.

Coconut Oil Treatment for Hair Loss

  1. Bring a bottle of coconut oil into the shower. Let the heat of the shower melt the coconut oil into a liquid.
  2. Once a few tablespoons of coconut oil have melted, pour the coconut oil directly onto your damp hair. Or, pour some into your hand and massage it into your hair.
  3. Massage the coconut oil into your scalp for at least two minutes. This will stimulate blood circulation to aid in hair health and growth. It will also help treat dandruff and dry scalp issues.
  4. Coat your hair in a thin layer of coconut oil from root to tip.
  5. Leave the shower. Put your hair up in a loose bun. If you have a shower cap, cover your head with it. Otherwise, drape a hand towel over your shoulders to catch dripping.
  6. Let the coconut oil mask sit for at least an hour. The longer that you let it sit, the more nutrients your hair will absorb and the more effective the mask will be.
  7. Hop in the shower and rinse the hair mask off. Shampoo your hair to fully rinse out the oil.

Use this mask at least once per week to reduce hair loss and eventually improve hair growth. Once your hair hair loss has been stemmed, move on to the coffee mask. Do not use this mask on same day that you use the coffee mask. In my experience, it is best to give your scalp and hair time to absorb the nutrients of a mask for at least one day before moving onto the next.

Coffee adds to strengthen hair and stimulate hair growth. Coffee blocks Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which causes hair follicle damage. This improves the strength of existing hair follicles. The caffeine also stimulates hair follicles, which improves the hair of hair follicles. The darker the coffee, the more nutrients it offers. Be aware that your body absorbs a great deal of caffeine when you use this hair mask, so it may keep you awake if you use it at night. Unfortunately, caffeine is harmful for your body when you have PCOS. So, if you suffer from PCOS, there needs to be a balance.

Coffee Treatment for Hair Breakage

  1. After shampooing your hair, coat your hair from root to tip in coffee grounds. Massage the coffee into your hair to ensure that it is thoroughly coated.
  2. Leave the shower. Put your hair up in a loose bun. If you have a shower cap, cover your head with it. Otherwise, drape a hand towel over your shoulders to catch dripping.
  3. Let the coffee mask sit for at least 30 minutes. The longer that you let it sit, the more nutrients your hair will absorb and the more effective the mask will be. Be aware that your body will absorb caffeine as long as you are wearing the mask.
  4. Hop in the shower and rinse the hair mask off. Condition your hair to add hydration after using the mask.

Use this mask at least once per week to reduce hair breakage and stimulate hair growth. Do not use this mask on same day that you use the coconut oil mask. In my experience, it is best to give your scalp and hair time to absorb the nutrients of a mask for at least one day before moving onto the next.

Bonus: If you have extra coffee grounds, you can scrub your face and body with it. Coffee is great for fighting cellulite, loose skin and wrinkles. It is an effective scrub for your face and fatty areas.

You should see a significant improvement in your hair and scalp health after just one treatment of each hair mask. They are the most effective hair masks that I have used. Coincidentally, they also happen to be the cheapest hair masks that I have used. Each hair mask offers plenty of nutrients with little to no downside. Use them regularly and let us know in the comments how well it works for you.
