The Amazing Hostess: All About Elsa

Have you ever heard of Elsa Maxwell?

Probably not.  But you should. However, I won’t hold it against you because I’ve only heard of her via my Old Time Radio App.  I listen to a mystery show called Suspense and one of the sponsors was Roma Wines.  Ms. Maxwell was a spokesperson for Roma Wines and on each commercial break she would give her “Renowned Hostess” tips and tricks when drinking Roma.

After listening to her speak every 10 minutes or so {during an episode} for the past 6 months, I finally decided to find out just who this woman was. I knew she was a famous hostess but I did not know that her parties {introducing party games to the mix} were world famous and always included celebrities and others in high society. Born in 1883 and dying in 1963, she lived quite an extensive life that also included book writing as well as singing and songwriting. She was quite the woman.

“Existence is a party. You join after it’s started and you leave before it’s finished.” ~Elsa Maxwell

I have written a few posts in the past about hostess gifts and have always wanted to look into more about throwing parties and how to be a great hostess because {though I don’t really get the opportunity often} I love to host parties. Not party parties, but gatherings of people. So, after doing some research on Elsa and finding that she has a book or two on the subject, I am going to do just that.

I am now on the hunt for this book:

I’m hoping to have it in my possession by the end of the week, read a bit and have some insights from one of the greatest Hostess’ in recent history.

“Serve the dinner backward, do anything – but for goodness sake, do something weird.” ~ Elsa Maxwell
