Handmade Thursday: Ice Wreath

This may sound odd, but as you can see, it’s actually quite beautiful. And it’s just as easy as it is beautiful. I wish I could make this, but sadly no change of seasons is one of the downsides of Los Angeles. For those fortunate enough to live where winter actually happens (trust me, you’re fortunate), add a natural touch to your outside lights and decorations with this this lovely wreath.

Materials

  • Round objects or container
  • baking spray or saran wrap
  • water
  • holly, branches, and any other decorations you want to put in
  • string
  • a nail
Instructions

1.) Choose a round object that is the size you want your wreath to be. This could be a baking pan, bucket or anything else you may have. If you choose a bucket, be sure to have something that can stay in place in the middle to create a hole such as a tin, bowl, etc.

2.) Once you choose your round object, either spray it with baking spray or outline it with saran wrap. This will prevent the ice from sticking to the object once it hardens.

3.) Pour the water into the round object.

4.) Add the branches of holly and berries into the design you wish. Add as many elements as you want. Pine cones and pine branches make for beautiful decorations as well.

5.) Let this sit overnight outside in the cold overnight.

6.) In the morning, take the now hardened ice wreath out of the object it was sitting in. It should come out easily without breaking. If you used saran wrap, take it off of the wreath.

7.) Wrap string around one part of the wreath and hang it up on a nail. Be sure to hang it somewhere that it won’t melt. The more shade the better.

And there you have it! A lovely wreath that is cheap, easy, natural and very unique. Take advantage of the cold weather and make the best out of it with some decor.
